North Sikkim Tour: A Slice of Heaven on Earth

North Sikkim is an awesome place described by many as a slice of heaven on earth. North Sikkim, which has direct boundaries with China occupied Tibet, is a wild land with abundant natural beauty to get lost into. A trip to North Sikkim is a must for all visitors once in the lifetime. North Sikkim trip can be taken from Gangtok.

Day 1: Gangtok to Lachen (120km/5hrs)

Start from Gangtok after getting all permissions, which are done by a government approved travel agent on your part. The route to Lachen from Gangtok is quite scenic and maximum altitude it reaches is a little more than 8500 feet.

Distance between the two places is around 125km but it takes anything around six to hours. The drive is slow because of the hilly routes and also because visitors stop at several places to take photos and make videos. One stop is also for lunch.

Beautiful places tourists will come across are Singhik View point, Seven Sisters Water Falls, Naga Water Falls, and Chungthang.

Reach Lachen by afternoon and check into a hotel. Spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake (70km/ 3hrs); Lachen to Lachung (50 km/2hrs)

Start the day in Lachen with a sumptuous breakfast. Today visitors should be ready to see the heights of around or more than 18,000 feet. Begin with an excursion to Chopta Valley (14,600 ft.) and then visit the famous Gurudongmar Lake (17,800 ft.). The Lake offers scintillating views of Mount Siniolchu and Mount Kanchanjunga.

Return back to your hotel after these excursions. Have lunch at the hotel and depart for Lachung (Altitude 8,600 ft), a drive of around two hours.

Check into a hotel and rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy a nice dinner and a sound overnight sleep.

Day 3: Lachung to Yumthang Valley excursion (26 km)

Start from hotel after breakfast for seeing some amazing scenic views. Yumthang Valley excursion is one of the best experiences you could have ever thought of.

The valley has different looks in different season. While it is covered with snow during January to March, it is full of rhododendrons during April and May.

Maximum altitude visitors can expect during the excursion is around 12000 feet. On route to Yumthang Valley you can visit Sulphur Hot Spring, which is supposed to have good medicinal values.

Returning from the excursion, enjoy your lunch at hotel in Lachung. You can also go on to see Lachung Monastery. Spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4: Lachung to Gangtok (125 km/5hrs)

Get up in the morning and after freshening up, have your breakfast. Begin your return journey from the hotel in Lachung.

On your return journey from Lachung to Gangtok, you can enjoy the sights of ever present beautiful views of high mountains and waterfalls cutting through the hills.

Check into a hotel on arrival in Gangtok. Overnight in Gangtok.
