Places to visit

Mere presence in Shimla is a soothing one. But there are a few attractions, out of many, where tourists must visit. Foremost of these is the Ridge which is considered the heart of Shimla for tourists. Perhaps the most photographed part of Shimla, the Ridge is the social hub for tourists and locals. It is lined with boutiques, bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops where tourists indulge in shopping and eating various cuisines. On clear days, one can spot snow-capped mountain ranges from here.

Besides these, one can visit Jakhoo Hill, the highest point of Shimla which offers scenic views of the snow-covered Shivalik Ranges. A tall Hanuman statue is located here. Strolling on Mall Road is an experience in itself. Tourists can buy a number of stuffs here ranging from books to wooden crafts to clothes and shoes and jewelry.

One must make a point to visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, which served as Viceroy Lodge during the British period. After Independence, the place served as the summer retreat of the President of India and was known as Rashtrapati Niwas. Later, it was turned into a center for advanced study and research.
